Vote nobody and say no to political goons
December 1st, 2008 , by amitagwlI had read about this in the past but just saw this great write up as a comment on a rediff article (http://specials.rediff.com/news/2008/nov/30sld1-landmarks-at-dusk.htm). In the light of the recent attacks and a dysfunctional government, it becomes even more important to exercise our franchise: to vote!
Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section “49-O” that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn’t want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called “49-O”.
Why should you go and say “I VOTE NOBODY”… because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received “49-O” votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the con test ants will be removed and they cannot con test the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them. This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way; of our whole political system… it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public….
Please spread this news to as many as you know… Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India … show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting… so don’t miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on…
Use your voting right for a better INDIA .

you seem to have got the facts right but the concept could work in many ways affecting us.
Firstly the politicians today are supported by a strong legal group. So if any situation like the above occurs then there are many people right and wrong to bend these rules in many ways. This would automatically lead to more loss of our hard earned money which the “leaders”have already pocketed.
The fact is that innumerable arguments could go on about what is right and what is wrong and the argument would never end as everyone has a different perspective.
Lets understand that there doesn’t seem to be a solution as there are many politicians who with their fragile principles are destroying the country.
The law enforcers are severely inadequate.
What has to change is the mindset of all people.
Where pointing fingers and finding loopholes has to be stopped and sincere action with honesty towards the nation’s good.
We are only being amateur by complicating it for ourselves.

I believe what rpi says is right. situation in India has reached to a fight for freedom again. we have to fight with our own people now who are leading the nation. even i was thinking the same thing that if i want to declare no one eligible for my vote what to do. i am surprised that provision is there and our media, which claims for lot of things and news and education to build a good nation has never highlighted this.
I am extremely sorry for role of Media in India. they are supporting wrong things, may be unknowingly.
even several people like me want to do lot of things for our country but always try to answer coming in mind like
where to start with
how will society react
where will i get money for this
who will support me
etc………..
i believe we should start at least from somewhere may be we should start correction in our own life and surroundings to come up to a big change.
